To influence and impact individuals, families, and communities for God’s glory by creating lives that are conformed into the image of Christ (Rom. 8:28-30) .
To actively and intentionally engage culture through relevant and effective evangelism, discipleship, and sound doctrine. (Matt. 28:18-20) Jesus commissions the Church to GO, then to TEACH, next to BAPTIZE, and finally again to TEACH.
Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church was organized in the year 1900 in the home of Deacon N.J. Jones. On September 6, 1901, Mrs. Lee Mitchell sold the property to Deacon Jones & Brother John Henderson for the sum of $25. The pastor at the time was Reverend C. Savage and the city was known as “Bradentown.”
In 1924, the church was built on the Northwest Corner of 6th Street and 9th Avenue. On April 1, 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Moss gave the property located on the corner of 5th Street and 9th Avenue to the church. This transaction was filed on April 5, 1946. Under the Rev. D.L. Jones’ administration, the land where the church is currently located was purchased and the edifice was constructed in 1969.
The current Dining/Fellowship Hall was constructed in 1991 under the leadership of Pastor James A. McMillian. The sanctuary was renovated in February 2009. On February 26, 2012 the current Fellowship Hall was dedicated in loving memory of the late pastor James A. McMillan.
On February 15th, 2015, we welcomed our new and current pastor/teacher Rev. Eric I. Reaves, Sr., and our beautiful First Lady, Sis. Sarah Reaves and their lovely family. Under the leadership of Rev. Reaves, we are experiencing the hand of God, the power and demonstration of the Holy Spirit and the manifestation of spiritual growth as we advance God’s Kingdom agenda through sound preaching, relevant teaching and active evangelism in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
